An empty city lot is pictured  An urban community garden with fresh produce is shown

We’re going to make this ...                                   ... look like this!

FULL - Thank you for your interest but we have reached our maximum volunteer limit.

Date
:  Sunday, January 6

Time: 12:00 Noon – 4:30 p.m.

Location: Roots in the City, urban garden 2 miles west of downtown Miami; please meet across the street from the historic Mount Zion Baptist Church at 301 Northwest 9th Street, Miami, Florida 33136

De
tails: Notre Dame and Alabama volunteers will join forces to transform a city block in downtown Miami into a vegetable garden. Our partner is Roots in the City, which is revitalizing the historic Overtown neighborhood 2 miles west of downtown Miami by cultivating empty city lots into prolific gardens full of healthy produce. Half of the produce is given to the local low-income residents and nearby homeless shelters. The other half is sold to support the program and provide jobs to local residents who tend the gardens.

We will be building raised beds out of cement blocks and hauling lots of top soil to fill them. Come prepared to get dirty!

Fr. Jenkins will be visiting volunteers as well as the Notre Dame Cheerleading Squad. Children and teens from the nearby high school garden club and the local youth center have been invited to join us.

Come represent Notre Dame to the Crimson Tide fans. All are welcome.

What to Wear/Bring: Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. Protect yourself from the sun and bring a hat and sunglasses. Water, lunch, gloves and supplies will be provided in addition to a lot of fun and fellowship (and healthy competition).
