July 21 – July 26, 2013
July 28 – August 2, 2013
What could be better than spending time with your family in a meaningful setting like the
beautiful campus of Notre Dame? How about teaching your children the value of giving back to others at the same time?
With ND Family Volunteer Camp, you’re invited to bring your spouse, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends to campus for a week of unique experiences designed to engage the whole family in community service—and have a whole lot of fun at the same time.
You will meet other alumni families who share your commitment to service and your ND memories. And in the span of one week, your family will make cross-country friendships that can last a lifetime. Participants perform three to six hours of service each day at South Bend area non-profit organizations such as the Center for the Homeless, the YWCA, and Camp Millhouse, an overnight camp for adults and children with disabilities. Evenings, participants are invited to attend fun events organized by the Alumni Association, such as ice skating, bowling, or an ice cream social.
Other benefits of Family Volunteer Camp include:
• Kids can fulfill service requirements for school or church.
• Everyone can use campus facilities such as the Rockne pool, St. Joseph’s beach, and the South Dining Hall.
• You can show your children your favorite campus sites, including the Grotto, LaFortune Student Center, your dorm, and the Hesburgh library.
• Participants will stay on campus in an air-conditioned residence hall.

The cost is $380 per person. The fee covers all meals, snacks, housing, and activities. Some of the money is also used for project supplies needed for work at the nonprofit sites. Transportation is not included, although there are seats available in staff vehicles for families who fly and do not rent a car. In general we rely on participants to drive themselves to and from work sites. Detailed directions and maps are provided.
Families are required to make a $400 deposit to reserve space in the program. This payment will be applied to your family's total fee. The deposit is non-refundable after Friday, March 1, 2013 (excluding cancellation due to family emergencies). If your family's plans change, the monies will be used towards service project supplies for the nonprofit agencies.
